With the 2009 season in full swing the Colorado Rockies have yet to show they are even a contender for the NL West.
The Rockies have a division worst 11-16 record, going 9-13 in the NL West for April, which is the teams longest stretch of division games.
It puts them 8.5 games back from the Dodgers in the first month of the season.
This does not bode well for Clint Hurdles future with the club.
Look I like Hurdle, I think he is a great guy and he is great in the Denver community however he is not leading this team in the right direction.
This team is full of quality players with high levels of talent, but it has yet to find any sort of identity. There is virtually no consistency anywhere with the exception of parts of the pitching staff, which boasts a quality 4.87 ERA.
If there is any shot for the Rockies to seeing the post season it has to start now. Let's face it the 2007 World Series run had a mystical aura about it, some would even call it a fluke.
This season’s version of the Rockies do not appear to have that same fortitude to pull off a late run and get them in the playoffs.
With the recent firing of Arizona Diamondbacks Manager Bob Melvin, it turns the spotlight to Hurdle.
The opportunity is ripe in the NL West, the Dodgers are now consumed with the Manny steroid scandal and the rest of the division is equally as messy as the Rockies.
If the Rockies plan to emerge at the top with all of the NL West turmoil Hurdle has to go, as much as it pains me to say that, clichés and platitudes aren’t getting it done.
