So, here’s my problem.
I picked a bad season to start a blog about the Mets.
Sure the theme of my blog is negative in nature. I am the Disgruntled Mets Fan after all, but that doesn’t change the fact that I want them to win above all.
The problem with writing a blog in a season like this is that I have to keep writing about, and watching, the Mets. The problem with that is the Mets are unwatchable.
They were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday, but were well out of it long before that. Hope has been gone since the All-Star break, if not before.
Why do we keep watching? Because football isn’t on every day.
When the Mets go down a run or two after the fourth inning, I find myself compelled to see what else is on TV. I do keep the game recording, so if I miss a comeback, I can go back and watch it, but how often does that happen?
This season has been a mental and emotional drain on my fanhood. It started with such high expectations that got lower and lower with each injury until they had bottomed out. "Ya’ Gotta’ Believe" just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore.
I need something from this team. I need a season to be happy about. Even in 2006, when the Mets lost a heartbreaker in the NLCS, it was a season they could be proud of. The franchise seems to be moving in the wrong direction with no signs of turning around.
All I know is I’m losing my patience, watching less and less of the games every night, and sooner or later, I will stop watching completely.
