Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo Jumps on Tarp, Makes Catch While Going into Stands

Watch out, Russell Martin. Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is making a strong run at the "Most Ridiculous Catch of the Year" award.

One day after the Toronto Blue Jays catcher attempted to make a crazy catch on the dugout railing, Rizzo made a ridiculous snag of his own. And he got to involve Cubs fans in the process.

In the top of the sixth inning of Wednesday night's game, Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun popped up a 1-1 pitch in foul territory near the stands down the first-base line. Rizzo tracked the ball, jumped up on the tarp and caught the ball as he went into the crowd.

Out...or is it?

The umpires discussed the play to decide whether the out should count. After talking for a few moments, they ruled that the out did indeed stand. However, Milwaukee's Jonathan Lucroy—who was on first—was awarded second base.

Rizzo had alertly thrown the ball back onto the field from the stands to try to keep Lucroy from advancing to second. However, given that Rizzo went out of play while making the catch, the runner was awarded a base. That doesn't detract from the incredible catch, though.

The Wrigley Field crowd, of course, loved Rizzo's effort.
