Jake Arrieta with a historic performance Sunday night leading the Cubs to a 2-0 victory over the Dodgers. But more importantly, a no-hitter. What started as a must-see matchup between two playoff teams ended up being the Arrieta show.
The Cy Young contender struck out twelve batters, including all three batters he faced in the ninth inning in his first career no-hitter and the sixth in the MLB this season.
Arrieta was also the first pitcher to get to 17 wins this season and is truly establishing himself as an ace.
His fastball, curveball and slider were on point all night and Dodgers hitters looked helpless when trying to bat against the dominant pitcher.
It was a road no-hitter, but plenty of Cubs fans were on hand to see Arrieta achieve history.
Dodgers Alex Wood pitched well going six innings giving up only a two-run Kris Bryant first inning home run, but could not match Arrieta's brillance.
Arrieta is the first pitcher to go 6-0 in a month since another former Cub, Carlos Zambrano. Another thing he shared with Zambrano, they are the last two Cub pitchers to throw a no-hitter.
