A day after ESPN baseball analyst Curt Schilling was pulled from the network's coverage of the 2015 Little League World Series, the company decided the former pitcher will not appear in the booth for this week's Sunday Night Baseball clash between the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Matt Yoder of Awful Announcing.
Schilling was originally removed from the Little League broadcast after tweeting out an offensive meme that has since been deleted.
"Curt's tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company's perspective," ESPN said in a statement, according to ESPN.com. "We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration."
Following ESPN's initial punishment, Schilling posted an apologetic tweet:
ESPN has yet to announce if or when Schilling will return to the booth, but Yoder provided some insight on that front.
"Predicting the length of ESPN suspensions can be a sticky wicket," Yoder wrote. "But given the network has been reticent to share a return date for Schilling, it’s fair to wonder when or even if he may return to the network given the nature of the controversial tweet."
ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball broadcast team is composed of play-by-play man Dan Shulman, Schilling and John Kruk in color commentary roles and reporter Buster Olney, but it will have to work without the three-time World Series champion for at least one week.
