Curtis Granderson is now officially a New York Yankee.
More importantly, he is now an ex-Tiger. Granderson came up through the ranks in Detroit and debuted way back in 2004 and has been a fixture in center field since that magical 2006 season.
Now that he’s gone, where does Granderson rank in team history?
His time in Detroit was relatively short lived, but here are a few facts about Granderson that helps make some sense about where he falls in Tigers history:
One of 31 Tigers to hit at least 100 homers in a Detroit uniform.
Ranks 13th on the Tigers all-time list for career triples. Only three Tigers since 1950 hit more triples than Grandy.
Of all Tigers to play, at least 80 percent of their games in centerfield, Granderson is third in Tigers history in base-hits.
Granderson is one of only three players in Tigers history to hit at least 20 triples in one season. The other two are Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford.
Granderson owns three of the highest 17 strikeout seasons in Tigers history. In 2006, he struck out 174 times, the third most in team history.
In 2008, Granderson had 84 extra-base hits. Only three players ever had more in a single season: Hank Greenberg, Rudy York, and Charlie Gehringer.
