David Wright Is Being a Role Model the Wright Way, Plays Catch With Fans

Let's all face reality here: Not all athletes are the best role models. Heck, even some of them are the most negative people to mold your life after, but there are luckily some great ballplayers out there that are here to change that.

Before taking the field in Atlanta before facing the BravesDavid Wright took time to unselfishly play some catch with young baseball fans before the game—an experience they surely will never forget.

Sure tossing the ball around with your dad in the front yard is great, but how many kids can say they played catch with an All-Star third basemen? That’s what I thought.

Not only did Wright take time out of his routine to give fans a cherished memory, but he gave a great deal of inspiration of how to be a great person by doing the little things that brighten people’s day.

There were a couple of wonderful aspects that caught my eye when I watched this video:

  1. This is an away game, and when do you ever see a ballplayer do this even at his home stadium?
  2. I love how he made sure every kid got a chance to catch the ball and hurl it back to him; and
  3. He did it all with a smile on his face.

This story is nothing short of heart-warming in the world of sports—which is just what we need in the midst of substance abuse, cheating, and legal scandals that plague today’s headlines.

David Wright is certainly not the only good guy in baseball, but what he did will hopefully rub off other big leaguers and motivate them to give fans a dream come true and a great person to look up to.
