Mariners 11, Tigers 3
The Good:
It only counts as one game in the standings.
The Bad:
No comeback this time. After giving up three runs in the third, it appeared that the Tigers were going to get right back in the game when they scored two in the fourth. But the comeback bid was stamped out by the M's answer of two runs in the bottom of the fourth and six runs in the fifth.
Swings and misses:
King Felix struck out nine Tigers in his 6.2 innings of work—all swinging. He's one of the best in baseball, and he made several Detroit hitters look foolish.
The Ugly:
Jeremy Bonderman—It looked for a while that Jeremy was going to have another strong outing, retiring four of the first nine hitters on strikes, but the wheels came off soon after. Bondo was lifted after only four innings in which he allowed 10 earned runs (with help from Brad Thomas).
The Uglier:
Brad Thomas—His strike-to-ball ratio continues to be abysmal. He threw 52 pitches in relief, and only 25 of them came over for strikes. That makes only 77 strikes out of 152 total pitches for Thomas on the season—a mere 50.7 percent.
The Ugliest:
The pitching/defense in general—Color Commentator Rod Allen summed the game up best in the seventh inning:
"Seattle's not a team that's going to score 11 runs, but with three errors and all the walks and balls right down the middle, you're going to get burned."
And get burned they did.
