Dioner Navarro's Loss Is John Jaso's Gain?

Major League Baseball finally brought the hammer down on Tampa Bay Rays catcher Dioner Navarro Tuesday morning.  Navarro was suspended for two games for bumping an umpire this past weekend.

Now on to the fun part.

This means Rays fans will get at least two more long looks at the emerging youngster John Jaso.  And it has been a sight for sore eyes.  Jaso has caught the attention of both Rays fans, teammates and coaches alike.

Over the past week, Jaso has impressed at the plate.  Jaso felt the Toronto love, driving in five runs in the series.  He nearly completed the comeback in the Rays Friday night loss, driving a ball deep into the gap, that if not for a former gold glove centerfielder, might have fallen for a hit.

Jaso has also had confidence calling a good game.  Count David Price as one of his recent fans.  Price mentioned he wasn't that enamored with Jaso in Durham, but has noticed a stark change since his call-up.  Price loved the confidence and loved the results even more. Price threw his first complete game shutout Sunday with Jaso behind the plate.

Consider Navi's job security threatened.  Jaso fits much better as a complement to Shoppach.

Navarro's loss may be Jaso's gain.  More importantly it may also be a gain for the Rays.
