Clayton Kershaw was wild on Sunday. At times, he struggled with his control and had thrown over 100 pitches by the eight inning. Yet, after seven innings, he still had not allowed a hit.
While not having the best contro,l Kershaw still pitched an effective game. So effective that many at LandShark Stadium were preparing to witness history.
Perhaps it was his own team that doomed Kershaw. The top of the eighth was a long one as the Dodgers put four runs on the board to give Kerhsaw a 10-run lead. By the time he returned to the mound, his sharpness was gone and his velocity was decreased.
Cody Ross, the first batter of the eighth, broke up his no-hitter with a line drive double to left. Ross would later in a grand-slam in the ninth off relief pitcher Guillermo Mota.
The game started out poorly for the Marlins, as John Koronka struggled through his second start of the year. Koronka cost himself by committing an error in both the first and second inning.
The Marlins started the game with two solid swings off Kershaw. A diving Orlando Hudson prevented a hit by leadoff man Emilio Bonifacio and Juan Pierre made a nice grab in left field on a ball hit by Wes Helms
The only other well-hit ball by a Marlin before Ross' double was a line drive by Jeremy Hermida which was snagged by Xavier Paul in right field.
Other than that, Kershaw was lights out.
Juan Pierre and Mark Loretta had three RBI apiece at the top of the Dodger's lineup to fuel their 12-5 victory.
