GAME SUMMARY:

For the second night in a row, the Tigers and Angels played a 2-1 game at Comerica Park. Tonight, the Tigers came out on top.
The Tigers, desperately needing a win, turned to Edwin Jackson on the mound. Jackson was absolutely terrific. He threw his first complete game as a member of the Tigers. Jackson allowed two hits and a run to the first two batters he faced. After that, he allowed only 2 hits the rest of the game.
The Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning, providing the games only other scoring. The Tigers had a few chances to score later in the game, but were stopped by the Angels pitching staff. On the offensive side, apart from the first inning, the Angels never really threatened to score.
With the win tonight, the Tigers are now 29-25, still on top in the AL Central. They will attempt to win the series tomorrow afternoon in Detroit.
- Good: When the game ended tonight, Rod Allen said something to the affect that whenever we think we’ve seen the best of Edwin Jackson, he comes right back out on tops it the next time around. Jackson just continues to amaze. His ERA is now 2.16 and his WHIP is below 1.00.
- Good: Jim Leyland let Jackson finish this one so that we didn’t have to see Fernando Rodney out there again.
- Good: Placido Polanco got himself a pair of hits. Hopefully he’s on the verge of busting out of his funk, because the Tigers cannot win if Polanco is going to be hitting in the .240s.
- Bad: Miguel Cabrera sat out the second game in a row, and the Tigers offense just doesn’t go without him. The Tigers got the win tonight but the offense was not good. They generated few scoring chances, and when they did, they did not push the runs across.
- Bad: Clete Thomas and Jeff Larish looked overmatched this evening. Both guys struck out twice.
