The Cubs sent eight prospects to the Arizona Fall League's Mesa Solar Sox. The AFL is one of the most exciting times of the year for teams and scouts as the league's best prospects converge on Arizona.

Most teams send a few guys who are household names, at least to the more astute fan. It's the names you don't know that you want to look into as they are the guys right around the corner, having been awarded for making significant strides or given the stint because they were injured and need the work.

Not even Major League Baseball is safe from the perils of a power failure during a big game.

In the bottom of the second inning of Tuesday's scoreless American League Championship Series Game 3 between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, the lights at Comerica Park shut off and delayed the start of the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Kepner of the New York Times was in the press box and sent out this tweet at about 4:42 p.m. ET:

The St. Louis Cardinals are an exemplary franchise, but are they on the verge of becoming a dynastic one?

David Freese left Game 3 of the NLCS between the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers Monday with a sore right calf muscle.

The Los Angeles Dodgers finally showed some signs of life in the NLCS, as they got back on track with a Game 3 win on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Still down 2-1 in the series, the Dodgers have some work to do as Lance Lynn (15-10, 3.97 ERA) takes the hill for the Cardinals. The Dodgers will counter with Ricky Nolasco (13-11, 3.70 ERA).

Twenty-five years later, we remember Kirk Gibson's dramatic home run off Dennis Eckersley in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. 

The Dodgers put Gibson, who had injuries to both legs and was not expected to play in the series, in as a pitch hitter with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and he responded with a two-run walk off home run to give Los Angeles a 5-4 win.

After a dramatic two-game split in Boston, the Detroit Tigers return home for a crucial Game 3 in the first of three consecutive games to be played at Comerica Park.

Despite a late-game collapse in which Detroit allowed five Boston runs over the final two innings of Sunday’s Game 2 loss, a combined one-hitter from Tigers’ pitchers in Game 1 gives Detroit a theoretical chance to win the ALCS at home.

Reaction from around Major League Baseball continues to pour in following the death of umpire Wally Bell. Bell passed away on Monday after working the National League Division Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.

It’s difficult to imagine where the St. Louis Cardinals would be without their rookie pitchers.

Between Carlos Martinez, Seth Maness, Trevor Rosenthal, Kevin Siegrist and Michael Wacha, the Cardinals' young hurlers have individually and collectively played a crucial role in the team's success this October.

However, one very important name has been absent from the mix: Shelby Miller.

The Red Sox win a classic pitchers' duel between John Lackey and Justin Verlander. Mike Napoli provided the offense with his 7th-inning HR. Boston took care of business on the road and took a 2-1 series lead in the ALCS. Be sure to check back tomorrow as we bring you Game 4!
