Seven weeks. That's how much time each of baseball's 30 franchises have to figure out whether they're contenders or pretenders, buyers or sellers, before baseball's Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline arrives.

Normally, we'd still be trying to figure out which team belongs in which category as well. But aside from one club—the Miami Marlins—we've got a pretty good idea as to who should be buying and who should be selling.

Between the fans, the players and the managers, quite a few minds will go into selecting the rosters for this year's MLB All-Star Game.

Let's guess their intentions, shall we?

On Friday at U.S. Cellular Field, Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer looked over his right shoulder in the first inning of his team’s game against the Chicago White Sox and stared down one of MLB’s best pitchers, lefty Chris Sale.

Hosmer won the battle. Kansas City’s left-handed slugger homered to left field.

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman completed the first cycle of the 2016 MLB season Wednesday with an 11th-inning single against the Cincinnati Reds. 

It was, in most respects, a typical Ichiro Suzuki hit: The tightly coiled, upright stance; the quick, slashing swing; a low, scorching liner past first base and into the right field corner.

But this particular hit—which came in the ninth inning of the Miami Marlins' 6-3 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday—carried extra significance.

After Jose Reyes was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, per an official team announcement, speculation is swirling about the All-Star shortstop's future.

Now the focus for each team the next few weeks will be on signing its respective draft picks and getting their pro careers started.
