Pittsburgh Pirates Commit Yet Another Crime Against Hu-"Fan"-Ity

Well done Pirates! You've once again declared this season a lost cause and traded away our only viable All-Star, Nate McLouth. All this despite only being six games out of a weak division in early June!

Well I guess it wouldn't make much sense to try and build the team around a solid young player, who is both a phenomenal hitter, a talented fielder and has also shown strong leadership skills in the lockerroom.

Yeah, wouldn't want to do that; It might endanger our goal of reaching 17-consecutive losing seasons.

Why A.J. Burnett's Suspension Doesn't Make Sense

Major League Baseball yesterday handed out yet another controversial suspension over a pitcher throwing at a batter.

It all started in Tuesday night's 12-3 victory by the New York Yankees over the Texas Rangers.  Early on in the game, Texas starter Vincente Padilla plunked Yankees slugger Mark Teixiera.  Twice.

The Rocky Road Ahead for the New York Mets in 2009

If there is to be any kind of a scapegoat in the Mets' recent three-game losing streak in a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates, it would have to be the number of injuries the team has sustained over the past few weeks.

With reliever J.J. Putz allowing four runs and blowing the Mets' lead in Monday night's game in an eventual 8-5 loss to the Pirates, many fans including myself thought Putz was experiencing a mechanical problem, but apparently the issue is an elbow injury.

Phillies-Dodgers: What Do You Get When You Cross a Dollar Dog With...

I bleed red.

I think that’s the silliest way to proclaim your devotion to the Phils.

But my loyalty goes deeper. Not only do I bleed Phillie red, mine’s pinstriped—like a candy cane. And when it pools on the floor it forms a “P” and smells like “dollar dog night.”

Johnson Gets 300th Win: A Great Day for Baseball

After a postponed game yesterday and a 36 minute rain delay today, history was made as the 45-year-old left handed Randy Johnson got his 300th career win.

After some clutch defense and stingy hitting, the day was complete after Brian Wilson struck out the side in the ninth inning to ensure the 5-1 victory for the Big Unit.

Johnson became the 24th pitcher and sixth left hander in Major League history to accomplish this great feat.

Albert Pujols Defines History in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS—LeBron James might be “The King”, but in St. Louis, locals will tell you there’s a more important person in town, “El Hombre”.  Albert Pujols has offered the sport of baseball one of its most amazing spectacles of talent ever.

I was watching the Giants vs. Nationals earlier today in the press box to see if Randy Johnson would complete a historic feat, 300 wins.  The mammoth lefty did, indeed, do so by pitching six innings of unearned ball.

Randy Johnson: Congratulations on 300 Wins

Earlier today, Randy Johnson became just the 24th player in major league history to win 300 games. Johnson pitched six solid innings, allowing no runs and just two hits against the Nationals. Brandon Medders, Jeremy Affeldt and Brian Wilson pitched the remaining three innings to secure the Giants 5-1 win.

When he was on top of his game, there was nobody as intimidating and as dominating as Johnson. He is with out a doubt a sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer.
