A free agent for the first time in his 11-year MLB career, Alex Rios has opted to sign with the Kansas City Royals. 

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman provides details of the new contract:

It has been two years since the New York Yankees made the postseason, so naturally there were going to be some changes and transactions this winter.

So far we have seen the Yankees take a slow and careful approach.

On the same day the Chicago Cubs officially announced they signed Jon Lester, the team is reportedly shoring up the bullpen.    

According to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat, the Cubs agreed to a one-year deal with veteran reliever Jason Motte:

Despite a somewhat disappointing 2014 season, third baseman Chase Headley cashed in Monday, reaching an agreement to sign a contract with the Yankees to stay in New York.
