The San Francisco Giants of 2010 were a great story. They had amazing pitching, solid hitting and a great cast of characters. You had the freak Tim Lincecum, the bearded Brian Wilson, the man whose contract is fun to rip nonstop, Barry Zito, and Kung Fu Panda himself, Pablo Sandoval.
Now, this cast of characters will have their own reality show. A trailer for the Giants' new reality show, "The Franchise", has been released, with a special preview of the show airing April 13 on Showtime.
The trailer shows a lot of behind the scenes information on pretty much anything you would want to know about the Giants. Included is Pablo Sandoval working out via hill climbing, among other things.
Personally, the Giants are probably the perfect team to use for this. They have a colorful cast of characters, the likes of which we haven't seen since perhaps the 2004 Red Sox, and they will definitely make for great television. On top of that, Brian Wilson is definitely in his fully bearded glory.
As for the show itself, it certainly looks good. My guess is that this is a way to make a show similar to Hard Knocks that the NFL uses. While it's not easy to compete with anything NFL Films does, this looks like it certainly has the possibility to do just that.
If I got Showtime, I would enjoy watching Lincecum, Wilson and company behind the scenes, especially with what we've seen Brian Wilson do on late night already after they won the 2010 World Series.
The show itself will premiere this summer, so there's time to get Showtime if you're especially excited to see this.
