Giant's Batting Coach: "Bam-Bam" Meulens

Many times, the low man on the totem pole does not get recognition for the job he does for an organization.  Giants batting coach Hensley "Bam-Bam" Meulens is that man in their organization this spring.  The Giants are leading both leagues in wins with 17.

They have upped their batting averages, total bases, slugging percentages, RBIs, and runs over last year's spring season results.  There has to be a reason for this great turnaround.  "Bam-Bam," on his own, took off to see players this past fall and talk with them about their hitting techniques and told them what the Giants organization was expecting from their play in 2010.  He was very specific about his effort in correcting what he deemed was hurting the lack of offense for the team.  This team was very close to the bottom in total offense last year.  I do not know how many games were lost by narrow margins of one or two runs.  We had pitchers many teams would have given anything for.  But we did not have the runs at the right time.

The Giants organization made the right decision to put "Bam-Bam" on board and help their offense.  I just hope the final decision means that manager Bochy and general manager Brian Sabean do not revert to selecting the older players who are not going to win for them.  Two players who have a great spring training with hits, total bases, and RBI are Buster Posey and Matt Downs.  These players are the future of the Giants rise to the top.

Geaux Giants!
