Giants' Kelby Tomlinson 1st MLB Hit in 1st Career AB, Wife Celebrates in Stands

With his wife Tiffany watching from the stands, San Francisco Giants rookie Kelby Tomlinson wasted no time in getting his first MLB hit.

Tomlinson was called up on Monday after second baseman Joe Panik was placed on the disabled list. Hours later, the 25-year-old would make his major league debut against the Atlanta Braves.

In the top of the 12th inning, Tomlinson was inserted into the game as a pinch hitter. On a 1-1 pitch from Braves left-hander Ross Detwiler, the rookie lined a single into center field for his first career hit.

That base hit created a special moment for the Tomlinsons, as Tiffany and her father celebrated in the stands.

Tiffany explained to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News how she was feeling after watching her husband get his first MLB hit:

I tried to keep it together the best I could. I couldn’t believe it. I don’t think I believed it until he got on deck and got ready to hit. Then it was, 'My goodness, it’s actually going to happen.'

I’m still in disbelief. It was all the emotions all at once. It was so exciting. I wanted to throw up. I’m just so proud of him.

Tomlinson would wind up giving the Giants an 8-7 lead with his first career run, but the Braves rallied in the bottom of the 12th for a 9-8 victory.
