There is hope for a victorious recovery.
As many Cleveland Indians fans remember, center fielder Grady Sizemore spent the majority of last season on the disabled list. It took Sizemore just under a year to fully recover from microfracture surgery to repair his knee.
Now, in spring training, after slowly incorporating more drills into his routine, Sizemore is back at his home position in center, even if just for a few innings at a time.
During the most recent game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Sizemore had two balls hit in his direction. The first ball came in the first inning. Russell Branyan hit a grounder up the middle for an RBI single. Sizemore sprinted to the ball and hit his cutoff man.
This play may not seem too significant, but for Sizemore and all Indians fans, it’s a sign of a long, but successful recovery from the center fielder. The next hit came in the third inning. Sizemore tracked down the fly ball hit into shallow center.
Sizemore was only active during the first three innings of the game. Offensively, he went 0-for-2, only seeing six total pitches. Facing Aaron Heilman, Sizemore flew out in the first and struck out looking in the third. As of now, the three-time AL All-star is back at the top of the lineup.
At this time, Sizemore is not expected to be fully ready for Opening Day. Sizemore is ready to get back to the game and work on his offense and defense in live games as much as possible.
If it were up to him, he’d likely be playing in every inning until he gets back to the full swing of things.
