It's the call most Mets fans wanted in spring training.
Ike Davis became a fan favorite with his impressive spring, but the Mets organization wanted to see him play more in Triple-A.
They chose to give the first base job to a combination of Fernando Tatis and Mike Jacobs while waiting for Daniel Murphy to return from injury.
Well, that didn't work out so well.
Jacobs was struggling at the plate, and Tatis is really not an everyday-type player. Last week the Mets designated Jacobs for assignment because they needed to add an extra pitcher to the roster in order to help the bullpen get some much-needed rest.
Once rested, the Mets were then able to send a pitcher to Triple-A and call up the young first baseman. Davis arrived in Queens yesterday and was inserted into the lineup, batting sixth and playing first base.
