The Houston Astros baseball club announced their list of 10 managerial candidates on Monday, Oct. 12, with names ranging from Manny Acta to Ned Yost.
Now, over the next week, General Manger Ed Wade and team owner Drayton McLane will be interviewing their choices before narrowing it down to their ultimate decision.
Wade and McLane will begin their sit-downs immediately, beginning Wednesday with interim manager Dave Clark and Astros Minor League field coordinator Al Pedrique.
On Thursday, Yost (the former Milwaukee Brewers manager) and Randy Ready (San Diego Padres hitting coach) will be interviewed.
Bob Melvin (the former Arizona Diamondbacks manger) and Acta (the former Washington Nationals manager) will interview on Friday.
Former Astros manager Phil Garner (pictured above) is the lone interviewee on Saturday, leaving Red Sox coaches Tim Bogar and Brad Mills to be interviewed on Monday, Oct. 19.
According to Brian McTaggart (Houston’s beat writer for MLB.com), the Astros have also been granted permission to speak with Pete Mackanin (Philadelphia’s bench coach), although the interview has yet to be scheduled due to the Phillies still being in the playoffs.
