Brad Mills.
Don’t worry if the name doesn’t ring a bell.
But Manager Mills is the new Houston Astros skipper.
If team owner Drayton McLane, general manager Ed Wade, and president of baseball operations Tal Smith all agree upon Mills, then Mills it is.
Just because a lot of people may not know a lot about Mills doesn’t mean he’s not the right person for the job.
As a roommate, teammate, and coach under Terry Francona, Mills could very well be the answer Houston has been looking for.
Astros fans at least need to give Mills a chance.
He’s held in very high regards in baseball circles, and as publicized many times before now, Wade greatly regrets ever letting go of Francona.
Now, Wade has a Francona-protégée as his new skipper.
Let’s give this time to play out.
Mills was impressive at his first news conference at Minute Maid Park.
“Name on front is more important than name on back,” Mills told reporters on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Looks like the Houston Astros made a good choice after all.
This latest news from Houston now places the blueprint for what will likely be a very busy offseason.
With Mills being chosen as the man to lead the Astros in 2010 and beyond, look for changes to begin taking place in the very near future in Houston.
This begins with, of course, getting a solid coaching staff in place.
I’d expect those names to be released soon, so check back later as the news continues to break in Houston.
One thing is certain: the decision has been made and it’s time to move on from here…
