It’s official: There will not be a winless team in Major League Baseball this year.
The Houston Astros finally won a game yesterday, as they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 in St. Louis.
I, for one, am happy the Astros won because I will have something good to talk about when I am on Houston radio Saturday night.
That’s called a cheap plug, kids.
The Astros used a solid performance from Bud Norris and an offensive outburst (for them at least) to notch their first win of the season. Any time the Astros score more than two runs in a game, it’s a big deal, but Norris was the story of this game for Houston.
Norris had a disastrous start against the Philadelphia Phillies in his first start of the season (four walks, three runs in 2.2 IP) but really had a bounce-back performance in his second start.
Norris threw five innings of four-hit baseball, allowed no earned runs, and struck out nine. He really had Colby Rasmus’ number, as Norris whiffed him three times on the day.
Norris is one of the few young potential stars the Astros have in their organization, so it’s imperative that Norris develops this season. If not, the Astros could be in really bad shape in a couple of years.
As I mentioned earlier, I will be on 1460 AM Houston The Sports Lounge on Saturday night at 10:30 CST. I will be talking about the Astros’ slow start, whether Brad Mills was the right hire in Houston, and if there is any hope for Houston.
