Injury Report: Mets' Mike Pelfrey Has Tendonitis

For those of us who have been wondering what the story is with Mike Pelfrey, it looks like we finally have an answer, and it is not the one I was pretty excited to see.

According to ESPN’s Peter Gammons, Pelfrey has been pitching with tendonitis, and that has limited his effectiveness on the mound. Now, what would be our options here? Let’s explore.

First we need to know more about this injury. Pelfrey needs to be honest and discuss if he is pitching with pain, and if he is, he needs to rest up the arm to get it back to 100 percent.

If that means putting him on the disabled list and going with Jonathan Niese, than so be it.

This can pan out in a bad way if the Mets mishandle him. This tendonitis could expand into some sort of tear, and then Pelfrey is out for a long time, and the Mets don’t want that to happen.

Big Pelf is pivotal to the Mets’ success this season, and the Mets need to have him pitching at his best to be successful.

If Pelfrey is pitching hurt, he isn’ going to help this team. The Mets need to be smart with this and examine all of the possible avenues.

But, our best case scenario is that this has all been made bigger than it needs to be. Hopefully, in a couple of days we will all be laughing about this and we will watch Pelfrey throw a gem.

I don’t know. Call me optimistic. There are 155 games left.
