J.J.Putz To Have Surgery on Ailing Elbow

So the merry-go-round continues for the Mets, who seem to have had every ailment and injury known to man, as Ken Rosenthal broke the news that J.J. Putz will likely be sidelined eight to ten weeks after undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs in his elbow.

The news comes shortly after an MRI showed that Jose Reyes had a slight tear in his hamstring tendon that may keep him out a month.

With the Mets clubhouse looking more like an infirmary, officials might be starting to believe that Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. has various Mets player voodoo dolls.

Putz, 32, had lost velocity on his fastball and his splitter had lost any and all bite. For the last few weeks, Putz' ERA had been climbing, creating a stir in the Met community and fans alike.

Rosenthal does point out that when Putz is set to return, the Mets will have some interesting options available to them in the bullpen, as Billy Wagner is looking towards a July/August return.

With a bullpen armed with K-Rod, Putz, and Wagner, the Mets will have three pitchers with a high level of closer experience.

The question remains, will the Mets be able to stay in the hunt until that time?
