Joe Mauer, 2009 AL MVP, Future New York Yankee?

Joe Mauer is an unbelievable athlete.  A man who could have had a career in football turned down a scholarship to play for Florida State and instead entered the MLB Draft, which has turned out to be a good choice.

When you think of a catcher, you don't usually think of eye popping offensive numbers, but that is what Mauer gives you, as well as a great defender of the plate.  The three time AL batting champ, two time gold glove winner, and now AL MVP has a bright future ahead of him, but will it be in Minnesota?

After 2010, some wonder where Mauer will end up.  Of course Minnesota will try everything to keep this once in a lifetime player, but will it be enough to keep him from the Yankees?

As we have seen in the past, the New York Yankees have no problem offering more money than any other team for big name free agents.  Most notably in the past off season was the near half billion dollars spent on C.C Sabathia, A.J Burnett, and Mark Teixeira.

Joe Mauer will have a lot to think about when he becomes a free agent.  Play for a World Series?  Or play for money?  The Twins have shown this year that they are still a force to be reckoned with, and have a shot at the World Series in the future, but the Yankees give Mauer the opportunity of winning every year, in addition to paying $25 Million a year.

With Jorge Posada aging and losing his abilities, it seems logical to see the Yankees offer Joe Mauer a blockbuster deal and make him the highest paid catcher ever.  But then again we are just speculating, but will Mauer play for love, or for money?
