Soler Likely Out for a Month
Monday, Aug. 24
With Mitchell reporting that Soler could be out of action for at least a month, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune tweeted the team called up Tommy La Stella to play second base so Chris Coghlan could be moved out to right field.
Soler, 23, is hitting .265 on the year with seven home runs, 42 RBI and 35 runs scored. He's been a vital part of Chicago's reinvigorated lineup. Fox Sports' Jon Morosi tweeted shortly after the announcement the "Cubs are 53-35 with Jorge Soler in the starting lineup this year, 18-16 otherwise."
The Cubs are currently 71-51 and battling for a postseason spot in the stacked NL Central, so losing Soler is a huge blow to the team. Add in the fact that Jason Motte is also headed to the disabled list, per Mitchell, and the Cubs have been hit with two key injuries at the absolute worst time of the season.
The team will now need to rely on its depth and players like Kris Bryant to help carry them through this rough patch.
