Justin Upton, Diamondbacks Agree To Six-Year Contract Extension

The Arizona Diamondbacks are officially locking down their future in the signing of Justin Upton. The Diamondbacks and Upton agreed to a six-year $51.26 million contract extension yesterday.

The deal will carry him through the 2015 season, when he will be turning 29 years old.

Upton batted .300/.366/.532 with 26 homers, 86 RBI, and 20 stolen bases last season. He is expected to be well worth the money but only time will tell if he will really produce.

I think that Justin Upton is a great hitter and his numbers have increased over the past three seasons he’s been playing in the majors. He had career highs in each statistical category last season.

I think that he will definitely break out in a big way in years to come.

Next on the list of possible signers is third baseman Mark Reynolds, who I think is a great power hitter in that lineup and proved it last season, hitting 44 homers and batting in 102 RBIs.

He finished up last season with 20 MVP votes.
