Kansas City Royals Pick Up David DeJesus' Option

Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore gets a lot of flack from the internet community (myself included) for some of the moves and comments he has made over the last couple of years. However, every now and then he does make some good moves.

Case in point, picking up outfielder David DeJesus‘ option for 2011. The Royals picked up DeJesus’ $6 million club option for 2011. Considering that DeJesus produced a 2.6 WAR in just 91 games, this is a pretty good deal for the Royals.

For one, DeJesus was on pace for a career year before going down with a thumb injury. He was hitting .318/.384/.443 with five HR’s and was playing solid defense. Any help the Royals can get on offense will be greatly appreciated in 2011.

Secondly, by picking up DeJesus’ option, the Royals will give him a chance to re-up his trade value. If DeJesus is healthy and once again puts up solid, but no spectacular numbers in 2011, the Royals can flip him at the trade deadline or before and get some value back.

DeJesus has a career .289 average in nine seasons with the Royals.
