Let The Roller Coaster Ride Begin

Perez can be one of the best in baseball when his game is good.

Perez can be one of the best in baseball when his game is good.

Tonight, we all know that Oliver Perez will be on the mound, but we don’t know which version of him will be up on the hill for the Amazins. Perez, who is coming off a rocky first start to say the least, will be looking to take step one to right the ship and prove that he is worth the big money that the Mets handed to him in the off season.

We all know Perez is an enigma. One day, he can be atrocious. The next time he pitches, he looks like Sandy Koufax.

The weird thing is that it is all in his head. He is known for getting adequately prepared for the big games against divisional rivals or the Yankees, so that wouldn’t bode to well in terms of tonight’s contest.

Tonight, Ollie and the Mets face the San Diego Padres, who many thought might be the worst team in baseball this season. They are off to a hot start, and this should be approached like a big game for Ollie.

I know the Mets have only played seven games, but it is important to get back to .500, and remember, games in April count just as much as games in September.

So which man are we going to see tonight? For some reason, I think we are in for a positive surprise. The Mets really need it.

After squandering an excellent effort by Johan Santana and having a hobbled Mike Pelfrey pitch less than mediocre, this team needs someone other than Livan Hernandez to produce. Oliver, the time is now. Earn your money, or you will be the next guy to get the boo birds in New York.
