Los Angeles Dodgers: Could Magic Johnson Become the Next Owner of the Dodgers?

It's time to bring Showtime back to Los Angeles.

With everyone on the planet speculating about who could possibly step up and become the next owner of one of the most storied franchises in all of professional sports, the Los Angeles Dodgers, there is one name that is not only intriguing, but would ignite a passion not seen in Dodger Stadium since Kirk Gibson hit one of the most magical home runs in World Series history: Earvin Magic Johnson.

Johnson, who sold his minority share of the Los Angeles Lakers last October, announced two months later that he was joining forces with AEG to attempt to bring an NFL franchise back to Los Angeles.

While it's unclear exactly how far that particular venture has progressed, the current situation with the Dodgers has to be intriguing in some respects to Johnson, who remains one of the most beloved sports figures in Los Angeles history.

On Thursday, the Hollywood Reporter released a list of possible choices who could become the next owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Johnson's name was included on that list. Johnson could absolutely team up with any number of Los Angeles-based millionaires/billionaires, and become the public face of the Dodgers franchise.

I mean seriously, how cool would that be?

It seems to be pretty clear that Magic wants a piece of a Los Angeles-based professional team. His stature in Los Angeles would continue to be enhanced with his involvement in any ownership group interested in purchasing the Dodgers, and all of this mess currently going on with MLB and current Dodgers' owner Frank McCourt would be old news in no time.

Johnson, who led the Lakers to five NBA championships during the 1980s, would instantly instill a winning air just based on his presence alone.

As J.A. Adande of ESPN.com pointed out in a column last October, Johnson would become the first black owner of a professional baseball team that featured the first-ever black player in Major League Baseball.

Johnson has made it his business to be successful in business by learning from the ground up, and his success comes from partnering with people who believe in his vision of winning.

So he may not know baseball. That didn't stop him from becoming successful in just about every venture he's been involved with.

It's time to bring Showtime back to Los Angeles. And Dodgertown will be the benefactors.
