The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are joining forces with FOX 25 personalities Kevin Lemanowicz and Ryan Asselta to spread cheer this holiday season as they search for a local elementary school to visit for a Holiday Party.
Building off the popular "Spread the Love" Tour, which visits one local elementary school, selected based on essays submitted by students detailing why their school should be selected, to make cards and gifts for the residents of the Bedford Veteran's Hospital.
This winter the caravan is looking for another local elementary school to join the good will program for a little holiday cheer.
"When we visit schools, you would think the excitement from the students would be unrivaled," said Spinners Vice President/General Manager Tim Bawmann. "However, when we visit residents at a nursing home or hospital, the joy on their faces when they see the cards produced by the children is an invigorating feeling."
Students and schools alike are asked to submit short essays detailing why the Spinners Holiday Party should be held at their school. All submissions must be received by December 7th, and a winning school will be announced the following day.
The Spinners Holiday Caravan will feature FOX 25's popular forecaster Kevin Lemanowicz and sports anchor Ryan Asselta, as well as the usual cast of characters from the Spinners, including Canaligator, the World Famous Dogman and the entire front office.
The group will make their first stop of the day at the winning school, where they will speak to the students and enlist their help to make holiday cards and gifts for the veterans while the guests interact with the kids, assisting them with their cards and signing autographs.
From there the caravan will head to the Bedford Veteran's Hospital to deliver the gifts and interact with the residents.
In conjunction with the promotion the Spinners are asking fans interested in participating to bring a gift suitable for an adult (veteran) to the Spinners offices. The first 30 people to do so will be rewarded with a baseball autographed by one of the five 2009 Lowell Spinners All-Stars.
