Mariners-Twins: Seattle Takes Season Opener

By now if you're reading this, it's likely that you know how the Twins lost, what went wrong, what could have went better, and everything in between. It was game one, and there are still 161 remaining.

With the heavily anticipated day now over, it's time to just focus on baseball and they'll start that tonight with Nick Blackburn against Erik Bedard.

The atmosphere at the Metrodome was great. A sellout crowd that didn't have much to cheer about was still alive, probably because there is no other feeling like Opening Day. After a long winter of waiting for moves, the 25 players took the field in a game that actually mattered.

Two thoughts:

Michael Cuddyer needs to swing. Three strikeouts is bad enough, but when two of them come looking, there's something wrong. Cuddyer wasted a great opportunity in the first inning, and then later in the game as well. Looking at pitches doesn't do much to protect Morneau.

Liriano was good, just not as good as King Felix. Allowing four hits and four runs in seven innings isn't awesome, but considering that he had no walks and that one of the home runs barely cleared the fence, Liriano was pretty sharp in his first trip to the mound.

The games ahead will be talked about in much more depth, but being at the game and all it was difficult to do much for this first game of the season.
