Andrew Miller a first round draft pick is headed down to the Arizona Fall League to get some work.
Andrew Miller one of the Marlins top prospects, came from the blockbuster deal of Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera for Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, and Burke Badenhop.
Miller, regarded as one of the top prospects in the franchise is not living up to the hype, and he has had a difficult time with his mechanics.
At the start of the '09 season he was offered the five-spot in the rotation behind Sanchez.
During the '09 season he had a rough time, he had a decent start but his pitches seemed to be getting out of control, and he couldn't throw strikes. So he eventually had to be demoted to the triple-A level to work on his delivery.
During his time in the majors he logged in 80 innings pitched.
When he was demoted he had a horrible time in the minors, where he went 1-2 with an ERA of 7.71, and walked batters consistently.
The worst part of his Minor League stint was that he obtained an ankle injury running the bases making the marlins place him on the DL and couldn't log in more innings.
In the minors he had logged 28 2/3 innings.
If you add his work in the minors and majors he had a total of 108 2/3 innings which is very little for a top prospect like Miller.
Many players have had slow starts especially young ones like Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, and Anibal Sanchez, but on the other hand the Marlins have been blessed with some very talented young players like Hanley Ramirez, Chris Coghlan, and Josh Johnson.
Andrew Miller even though is having a tough time he is still a very good ball player and I believe he could be a future ace. He just needs to get some more innings.
In both of his seasons with the Marlins, he has logged in only 200 innings in the minors and majors. He needs to be able to pitch and feel more comfortable at the big league level, the marlins have to jut stay with him and help him through his growing pains.
Andrew Miller is not the only player to get to a rough start, many other players like future Hall of Famer Randy Johnson and Jamie Moyer have had rough starts, not to say that Miller will turn out out like Moyer or Johnson, but he just needs to do what both of them did early in their careers, and that was pitch and make adjustments.
Andrew Miller one of the biggest prospects in the game needs some work, so he will go down to Arizona where Marlins fans hope he will be healthy and strong enough to eat some innings and hopefully be ready for spring where Marlins fans hope he is good enough to take a spot in the rotation.
