Holliday Avoids Facial Fracture, Is Day-to-Day

Thursday, July 21

The Cardinals' official Twitter account announced the update on Holliday's injury, which occurred in the sixth inning of Thursday's contest when Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner smashed him with a fastball.

Holliday battled lower-back tightness right after the season started in April, but he's otherwise been healthy following a 2015 campaign that was littered with injuries.

A year ago, Holliday was limited to just 73 appearances as he battled a right quadriceps injury that hindered his availability throughout the summer. He finished the abbreviated campaign with a .279 batting average, four home runs and 35 RBI.

Through 88 games this season, Holliday is batting .244 with 17 home runs and 55 RBI. He's also posted an on-base percentage of .319.

Should the 36-year-old miss time, the Cardinals can turn to up-and-comer Jeremy Hazelbaker in left field. The good news is Holliday's forecast is promising, and he should be back on the diamond in short order.
