Rod Serling is dead. That is a fact. But his Twilight Zone series still airs today.
Many think I'm referring to reruns. No, no my friends. I'm referring to the new episodes running on SNY, home of the New York Mets.
You see, every time I turn on a Mets game, I am watching a new episode of The Twilight Zone.
Some nights, the show is about the same thing happening over and over again. Other nights, you'll see something you've never seen before. Some nights, it leaves you scared. Other nights, it leaves you sad.
The series is about a dysfunctional baseball team that can beat any team in the league with both hands tied behind their back. But the baseball gods won't let them. So every night they are forced to go out and beat themselves.
Last night, I turned on the game and I wasn't disappointed, as usual. It was a great episode.
A pitcher (Tim Redding) threw a heckuva game in his first start of the season. Pagan got four hits. The Mets made five errors and the Dodgers still could only score 3 runs. The Mets also played without two of their best players—Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado—again.
In the end, a player who is back in action after severe head trauma (Ryan Church) missed third base en route to scoring what everyone thought was the winning run.
The villain (Joe Torre) pointed the transgression out to the umpire, who disallowed Church's run.
The Dodgers then scored in the bottom of the 11th inning on an error by Jeremy Reed, an outfielder forced to play out of position at first base.
I can't wait to see what happens tonight. Will it be a comedy, a drama or just another tearjerker?
