It was a three-run fifth inning that sparked the New York Mets to a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves today in Grapefruit League action. Russ Adams hit a solo shot off of Chris Resop in the eighth to put the game away.
Mets also got offense from Jesus Feliciano, who was 2-for-2, and Ike Davis made his name known for the first baseman job with a 2-for-3 day with a double.
Offense for the Braves today came from veteran catcher Brian McCann and backup catcher Clint Sammons who both had an RBI each. We also saw newly acquired Melky Cabrera in action with a 1-for-3 day.
On the pitching side, Nelson Figueroa started off for the Mets against Tommy Hanson. They both lasted for about two innings.
After Hanson left, the Braves followed up with Kris Medlen, Jesse Chavez, Michael Dunn, Manny Acosta, and Chris Resop.
The Mets took out Figueroa and gave appearances to Elmer Dessens, Bobby Livingston, Bobby Parnell, Pedro Feliciano, and Ryota Igarashi.
Around Camp
In other action around Spring Training the Pirates faced off against Manatee-Sarasota College and won, 6-1. Steven Pearce, Brandon Moss, and Erik Kratz all hit home runs.
The Detroit Tigers played against Florida Southern College and dismantled them, 13-1. Ryan Strieby and Casper Wells both hit homers while we saw former Yankee Phil Coke get the nod and the win along with three strikeouts in two innings of work.
On the Look Out
Things start to get into full swing tomorrow when we see Tigers vs. Blue Jays, Mets vs. Atlanta, Pirates vs. Yankees, Rays vs. Orioles, Giants vs. Mariners, Northeastern vs. Red Sox, Miami (FL) vs. Marlins, Boston College vs. Red Sox, and Florida State vs. Phillies. Nine games full of baseball action.
