NEW YORK- Mike Pelfrey has been one of the few bright spots of the 2010 season. Pelfrey continued that success Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs.
Mike Pelfrey pitched his best game of the season Tuesday night at Citi Field, pitching seven innings of shutout ball. Pelfrey's split finger was masterful, striking out six, and walking three.
Adding to Pelfrey's pitching, Jose Reyes had a breakout game, delivering four hits and a stolen base, including a two-RBI-triple into the left field gap. Reyes came into the game batting .190 and looked comfortable at the plate.
Fernando Tatis added a pinch hit homer in the bottom of the eighth to put the Mets up 4-0.
The offensive stars of the night for the Mets were Jose Reyes, who went 4-5 and Luis Castillo, who went 2-4.
On a night when the entire offense wasn't at its finest, Mike Pelfrey and the Mets bullpen shut the door on the Cubs. Pelfrey earned his third victory of the season, improving to 3-0, while Carlos Zambrano took the loss.
The Mets and Cubs have two more games remaining in this series and will be right back at it tomorrow at Citi Field.
Tomorrow's probable pitchers will be Oliver Perez for the Mets and Carlos Silva for the Cubs.
