Breakdown
Deibinson (D.J.) Romero signed with the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in the summer of 2004 as a 17 year-old. He spent all of the 2005 season in the Dominican Summer League and then made his way to the States in 2006.
He had two successful years in rookie ball, but was hit by knee injuries in 2008. Even with these injuries, the Twins rewarded Romero by adding him to their 40-man roster prior to the 2009 season.
The Twins continued to show their faith in Romero by starting him at High-A despite him playing just 42 games in Low-A. Romero responded to both of these actions by hitting a measly .225/.331/.319 with just five home runs in 118 games with the Miracle. Despite being in a pitcher-friendly environment, the Twins expected a lot more from Romero.
The Twins decided to take him off of the 40-man roster in November to make room for other players. He still has value as a defender, but the Twins won't tolerate this kind of production from him much longer. If he doesn't turn things around in 2010, he could find himself with a different organization in 2011.
