MLB 2011 Breaking News: Toronto Acquires Jayson Nix, Bautista Moves to RF

According to both mlb.com and cbcsports.com, Toronto has acquired super-utility-man, Jayson Nix, from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.

To make room on the roster, Toronto has placed reliever Jesse Carlson on the 60 day disabled list with a left shoulder strain. This means that David Purcey will now serve as the lefty specialist for the time being.

The versatile Nix can play third base, second base, shortstop and the outfield. Last year with both the White Sox and Indians, Nix hit .224 with 14 home runs and 34 runs batted in.

A first round pick (supplemental) of Colorado back in 2001, Nix was a late bloomer, not making his Major League debut until 2008. He's since bounced around the league as nothing more than a depth player. Toronto will be his third team in less than a year.

In a further development, Jose Bautista has been granted his wish and will man right field with Edwin Ecarnacion set to man the hot corner. No word on who has won the left field assignment between Travis Snider and Juan Rivera, although an early season platoon is a definite possibility.

With the addition of Nix, Mike McCoy's days as a Toronto Blue Jay could be numbered.
