Mets fans, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but apparently, SNY can't televise the Mets game until 7:05 PM EST, because FOX has an exclusive broadcast window, which comes to effect on Saturdays from 4:00 PM EST to 7:05 PM EST.
The MLB blackout rules are trash.
Here's another rule if you are in the territory of your team's blackout map, and your team isn't shown on cable—guess what? You are out of luck my friend.
You'll probably say, "No problem, I got MLB Extra Innings!"
But then you tune to the channel of your team's game, and all you see is a black screen.
Then you'll probably say "No big deal! I got MLB.TV as well!"
But, you go to MLB.TV, and select your team's game, you'll be staring at a black screen!
And then you will be wondering how are you supposed to watch your team, in a legal way? You'll be wondering if you have the time or gas money to drive a bunch of miles, and buy a ticket to attend the game.
I know, the blackout rules suck. It's 2009 for Christ's sake. I mean, just look at the blackout map.
The Reds blackout area is as far as Tennessee, western North Carolina, and northern Mississippi? The entire state of Iowa is Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Twins, Cardinals, and Royals blackout territory? Yep, that's right folks! And I bet some of those teams don't get the team's coverage in those states. Ridiculous, right?
Not even the NFL has a blackout rule that is that arcane.
