MLB: Josh Hamilton out Two Months with Broken Arms

Baseball writers and fans often argued that had New York Yankees outfielder Mickey Mantle been able to stay healthy, he may have been the greatest baseball player to ever play.

Someday, people may argue the same about Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton.

On Tuesday afternoon, Josh Hamilton ended up on the disabled list after sliding head-first towards home plate on a pop fly out in foul territory. With no one covering home, Hamilton bolted and was tagged out, and in the end, that one single slide may have put him on the bench for at least the next two months.

This marks the second time in an odd numbered year for the Rangers, that Josh Hamilton has ended up on the disabled list for an extended period of time.

Back in 2009, Hamilton played in only 89 games when the year before he played in 156.

Through 10 games, Hamilton was hitting .333 with seven runs batted in while the Rangers were off to best record in the league at 9-1.

With Hamilton out, Texas will look to former first round pick David Murphy to take over left field.

If there is any good news to come out of the injury of Hamilton, it may be that Hamilton didn't injure his throwing arm, and in the long term, the year after Hamilton's injury-riddled 2009 season, Hamilton had the best year of his career, which was capped with an MVP award and an appearance in the World Series.
