The emergence of the MLB Network over the past few months has been outstanding. Truth be told, any network that provides a reasonable alternative to John Kruk bumbling and stumbling is probably going to get a fair chance, even if said network contains a healthy dosage of Harold Reynolds.
The MLB Network has done a fantastic job at seamlessly integrating live game feeds with studio opinions. Cut to a key at-bat, then head back to the studio for a response and a game synopsis. Then repeat. At any point during a series of games, the MLB Network gets hardcore baseball fans updated very quickly.
However, the nature of the beast is that every regional baseball network has branding that appear at various static locations on their individual video feeds. Long story short, when their video feeds are integrated into the MLB Network frame, odd things can happen.
Case in point: the Yankees-Royals game this weekend which was streamed from FSN Kansas City.
Luckily, Yankee fans watching the game knew the covered batter was their pride and joy, Derek Jeter at the plate. And not because his signature No. 2 avoided the “FSN Kansas City” branding, but because they’d recognize that luscious tush in any circumstance.
