MLB Spring Training All-Stars: Hitters

With spring training almost over, it’s time to take a look who is tearing up both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues.

Here are the Spring Training All-Stars...

(All stats are through Wednesday, March 24.)

C—Mike Napoli, LAA—.313/5/9/.405

If Mike Scioscia had any faith in Napoli behind the plate, he could hit 40 home runs during the regular season. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that will ever happen.

1B—Chris Davis, Texas Rangers—.353/2/10/.389

Davis is doing his best to prove last year was a fluke. Strikeouts are still a problem for Davis, however. He has 15 in just 50 at-bats.

2B—Sean Rodriguez, Tampa Bay Rays—.419/6/14/.468

Rodriguez is tied for the major league lead in home runs with six. With the ability to play second, short, and the outfield he could be Ben Zobrist 2.0.

SS—Stephen Drew, Arizona Diamondbacks—.423/2/8/.476

Drew suffered through an injury-plagued 2009, but if he is healthy he could return to his 2008 form.

3B—Ryan Zimmerman, Washington Nationals—.421/5/8/.436

If this guy played in major market, he would be a bona fide superstar. He looks like he is in mid-season form in March.

OF—Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers—.385/4/14/.468

Cruz had his breakout season last year at the age of 29. If he plays in 150-plus games, he could potentially hit 40 home runs.

OF—Michael Cuddyer, Minnesota Twins—.500/2/8/.550

Very quietly Cuddyer hit 32 home runs last year, and he looks like he can have a repeat 2010 season. He has an impressive 18 hits in 36 at-bats this spring.

OF—Tyler Colvin, Chicago Cubs—.440/1/9

Colvin was the Cubs’ first-round pick in 2006 and is trying to prove he belongs at the major league level. Colvin leads all the majors in hits with 22 during spring training.

DH—Delwyn Young, Pittsburgh Pirates—.324/6/16/.390

Rodriguez is tied for the lead in home runs, and the man he is tied with is Young. With a crowded outfield in Pittsburgh and Akinori Iwamura at second, Young will have a bench role with the Pirates this year.
