MLB Trade Rumors: Oakland Athletics Interested in Chone Figgins

The Oakland Athletics might not be done with their busy offseason yet.

A source told the Contra Costa Times that the A's are interested in Seattle Mariners' infielder Chone Figgins.

The current talk, according to the source, involves Oakland sending current third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff and "perhaps a pitcher" to Seattle in exchange for Figgins.

The A's had been on the Adrian Beltre trail earlier this weekend, but the sweepstakes that also involved AL West rivals Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Texas Rangers, eventually ended with Beltre signing with the reigning American League champions.

This has been an especially busy and interesting offseason for Athletics General Manager Billy Beane, who has added DH Hideki Matsui, outfielders David DeJesus and Josh Willingham and pitchers Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes.

Aside from being in on Beltre, the A's also had targeted Lance Berkman before he ultimately signed with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The A's finished 81-81 in 2010 and are looking to close the gap in the AL West on the Rangers.

Figgins had a down season in 2010, batting .259/.340/.646 with only one home run for the Mariners, after switching to second base and moving to the No. 2 spot in the lineup behind Ichiro.

Kouzmanoff, also down from previous seasons, hit .247/.283/.396 with 16 long balls for the Athletics last season.
