Last week I told you about the #LegendofSamFuld hashtag that Tampa Bay Rays fans have been using on Twitter to glorify the extraordinary play of LF Sam Fuld in MLB Twitter Trends: The Legend of Sam Fuld, Tampa Bay's New Hero.
Since then, Fuld has received national attention for his play and interesting background. The legend, it would seem, is growing.
However, a new trend on Twitter has many members of the Rays Republic riled up.
It seems that a Boston Red Sox beat writer has started a movement within Red Sox Nation by using a hashtag of his own.
#LegendofJedLowrie was first used by Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal, and like the Sam Fuld hashtag before it, the use of it is catching on.
Its existence has started a Twitter flame war between Rays and Red Sox tweeters, that as you might expect has spawned some pretty creative tweets.
Even on Twitter, there is no love lost between Rays and Red Sox fans.
Amongst some of the better ones are:
1) #legendofjedlowrie woke up this morning in #thelegendofsamfuldpajamas... and *still* in last place.
2) when the #legendofsamfuld ever plays in a game with fans, then he might be half of what the #legendofjedlowrie is, but probably not
3) yea but our legend plays in front of REAL fans in a REAL park on a REAL Team in a REAL City #BOSTON #REDSOX#legendofjedlowrie
4) I love the fact that RedSoxFan can't come up with their own memes.#LegendOfJedLowrie
5) Spell check automatically changed #legendofjedlowrie to#legendofsamfuld on my laptop. Is that happening with anyone else?#Rays
6) Jed Lowrie would've beaten #legendofsamfuld but unfortunately Marco Scutaro wasn't on steroids #legendofjedlowrie
7) #LegendofSamFuld called and he wants his #LegendofJedLowrie back.

MacPherson tweeted me today saying, "It's actually an homage to Sam Fuld, especially because he played with Lowrie at Stanford."
Homage or not, as you can clearly see, Rays fans aren't taking too kindly to it's use. Red Sox fans are firing back, and I wouldn't expect the hashtag to disappear any time soon.
As with the #LegendofSamFuld, there are apparently #LegendofJedLowrie t-shirts in the works, and a @JedLowrieLegend Twitter account.
It will be interesting to see where this whole thing goes in the coming weeks. The Rays and Red Sox don't play again until June, and there will be plenty of time for this Twitter trend to sizzle or fizzle.
One thing is for sure though, both Fuld and Lowrie are playing incredible baseball right now, and are very worthy of all the attention they are receiving.
As if on cue, Fuld and Lowrie took to the field Monday and put up monster games.
Fuld went 4-for-4 against the White Sox, with another highlight reel catch.
Lowrie, in the Patriot's Day game at Fenway, went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.
Sam Fuld and Jed Lowrie, former teammates at Stanford, have been reunited through outstanding play on the diamond, and some very zealous Twitter users.
Isn't baseball great?
