MLB Under the Bleachers: June 5

The Sox Throw a Good Pick Six?

The old adage says you can never have too much pitching, but most teams don't have enough. Fifth starters are just disposable rotation fillers on most teams, which makes the Red Sox' current conundrum so odd: They've got too many good starters.  What to do?

Here's a piece that proposes the Sox think outside the box and move to a six-man rotation.  It sounds crazy at first, but the writer's got a good idea for how to make it work. Clay Buchholz thinks this idea is so good that it's worth swiping a laptop to read about it.

Loyalty? Show It to the Door.

It's all well and good to stick with a player through a rough spell, but the Braves' unyielding devotion to Jeff Francoeur is starting to border on lunacy.

It's not like Francoeur is just mired in some little slump; he really hasn't been any good since 2005. Yet still, the Braves keep trotting him out to right field every day.  One fan says it might be time to start cutting down on Frenchy's playing time.

So chin up, Jordan Schafer.  Sure, the Braves may have sent you back down to the minors, but if their treatment of Francoeur is any indication, you can ride your hot 2009 spring training into a job until at least 2018.

Better Than a Crystal Ball

The first two months of the season are in the books, but what's going to happen over the rest of 2009?  Here are 10 fearless predictions for the remainder of the season, presented in handy slideshow form.

Zack Greinke as the AL Cy Young?  We could see it; after Cliff Lee's performance last year we're not going to write off any hot starts.

As for the Nationals losing 123 games, though? That sounds a little crazy...does anyone think the Nats are really that good?

Goodbye, Tiger Stadium

The Tigers have been in Comerica for a while now, but the beloved Tiger Stadium wasn't quite gone yet.  A piece of it was still standing, which meant we could all tell ourselves one of the game's most celebrated venues was still around.

Not anymore.  Since that last lingering piece is coming down, why not soak in a loving tribute to Tiger Stadium?  It's pretty sad to think that we won't have those walls that housed so many legends: Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Alan Trammell, Mike Maroth...Wait.  Nevermind about Maroth.  We meant "Nate Cornejo."

The Unknown Superstar

Adrian Gonzalez was a No. 1 overall pick in MLB's draft, and he's already got 21 jacks this season. The guy is just amazing. Yet the national media gives him no love, and he's already been traded twice in his career. What gives?

Here's a look at just how terrific Gonzelz has been in the early going, which is all the more amazing considering he's basically playing in a Triple-A offense.  Opposing GMs must already be ecstatic for the chance to get him during the Padres' annual fire sale in 2010
