Ryan Zimmerman helped carry the Washington Nationals to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 30-year-old went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and slugged a pair of home runs. The second homer he launched was the 200th of his career.
His RBI single in the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Nationals a much-needed win.
Max Scherzer wasn’t sharp and gave up 11 hits in just six innings, but limited the damage by striking out 10 batters.
For the Cardinals, Tyler Lyons was solid, but struggled to keep the ball in the park and gave up three home runs. The club had the tying run on third base with one out in the ninth inning, but a strikeout and groundball ended the rally.
