Cruz Sitting Amidst 21-Game Hit Streak
Wednesday, Aug. 12
Greg Johns of MLB.com reported Franklin Gutierrez will DH for Cruz as the Mariners face off against Orioles starter Kevin Gausman.
This isn't his first injury scare, and Mariners fans will hope that this issue will go as smoothly as his last.
On June 23, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reported the 35-year-old had a pelvic bone pop out of place, but he returned to the lineup just a day later.
As a whole, the Mariners have been one of the more disappointing teams in the American League this year. Some projected Seattle as a top-two team in the division before the year began, but the club has spent almost the entirety of 2015 below .500.
That's why it's important Cruz's injury doesn't keep him on the shelf for a prolonged period of time. He's hitting .324/.389/.609 with 34 home runs and 70 runs batted in.
Obviously, all of that production hasn't gotten Seattle into a playoff position, but take his bat out of the lineup, and the Mariners look even bleaker.
