New York Mets Milestones That Could Be Broken This Year

Every year players come closer and closer to breaking new records and feats. This year is no different; a handful of Mets players come closer to breaking franchise records.

Here is a look at what is at stake:

David Wright needs to hit 24 home runs to become No. 3 on the Mets' all-time home run list.

Carlos Beltran needs to hit 21 home runs to become No. 5 on the Mets' all-time home run list.

David Wright needs 70 more RBI to become No. 1 on the Mets' all-time RBI list.

Jose Reyes need 78 more RBI to become No. 10 on the Mets' all-time RBI list.

Carlos Beltran needs 29 RBI to become No. 7, 46 RBI for No. 6 and 122 RBI to become No. 5 on the Mets' all-time RBI list (I don't see that last one happening).

David Wright needs 161 strikeouts to become No. 1 as the Mets' all-time strikeout leader (he had exactly 161 last year).

David Wright needs 40 hits to become No. 2 on the Mets' all-time hits list; he needs 270 to become No. 1 (next year, hopefully).

Jose Reyes has only 30 hits fewer than Wright, so he is right in the mix on the Mets' all-time hit list as well.

David Wright is 24 runs away from becoming the all-time Mets' run leader. Jose Reyes has only five runs fewer than David Wright, so he is in the mix as well.

David Wright needs 15 more stolen bases to become No. 5 on the Mets' all-time stolen base leader list.

Mike Pelfrey needs only 10 more wins to jump from No. 19 to No. 14 on the Mets' all-time wins leader list.

K-Rod needs 27 saves to jump from No. 9 to No. 5 on the Mets' all-time saves leader list.

And so this is just a look at some of the various Mets milestones that are reachable this season.

All in all, it certainly does put David Wright into great appreciation, and a testament to how he will certainly hold many of the Mets hitting records in the years to come.

It is also interesting to see how close Reyes and Wright are in some of the record categories.
